Mustang Can Do Serious Recovery

Be a little patient with this one...I've seen this video before a few years ago. The cops tried several time to subdue the blue Mustang, but I have to say that the fugitive should seriously consider being a racer in Formula One if and when he gets out of jail.

A Self-Referencing Fortune

To translate this into C/C++ code (I'm gonna get shot for this):

void* thisFortune;
*thisFortune = thisFortune;

Sometimes, being a geek just means you can laugh at stupid things and kind of get away with it.

The Mating Game

Roman Dirge introduced his friends to a band name Bitter:Sweet, a duo based in LA. This is their promotional video, which Dirge had a hand in. Directed by Nathan Cabrera. Pretty interesting music, blend of electronic and sultry jazz style singing with good lyrics.

Specially Designated Nationals List

My good friend Fernando recently attempted to open a Paypal account and received the following email:

Access to your PayPal account has been denied because your name is similar to or a match to an entry on the Office of Foreign Assets Control Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. We are required to further verify your identity. In order to regain access to your account, please provide the following documentation:

1. A copy of government-issued photograph identification (i.e. passport, driver's license).
2. A copy of a utility bill verifying your address
3. A copy of a document verifying your date and place of birth.

Reply to this e-mail with all questions at ofacappeal@paypal.com

Naturally, this incident piqued my curiosity. I began to do a little research on this SDN list. Turns out that the U.S. Department of Treasury has a division called the Office of Foreign Assets Control that publishes (and updates) a list of foreign nationals known for illegal commerce. Poor Fernando was blacklisted because he shared the first and last name of a Colombian drug supplier, even though F is from Ecuador, they do not share the same middle name, and F was definitely NOT born in 1962.

Currently, the list can be obtained here. *WARNING* It is over 200 pages long!!!

This jingoistic posting was brought to you by: Google, and spending too much time at the computer.

Flowers For You...

...when you receive an A380.

"We have a tradition here in France. When for example a dealer delivers a new car to his client, he throws in a bunch of flowers for [the client's] wife. Today, we have a beautiful bunch of flowers, hand-picked from the side of the runway. So, we've kept up a marvelous French tradition." -- One of the test pilots for the A380

Don't Mess With Me

Nothing gets between me and my toy chew. NOTHING.

My scooter is BACK...

...with a vengeance!!! The good folks at Bulldog Cycles did a phenomenal job in restoring my little red scooter. Tim did the plastic welding on the front headlight cover so that I no longer needed the duct tape and the electric tape to hold it together. They put anti-rust coating on my tail pipe, drained the oil and replaced it with the proper two-stroke oil for motorcycles (I've been using the marine outboard oil, which is a big no-no), replaced the front tire (it was flat), adjusted the freeplay on the handlebar, hooked up the electricity on my headlight...all for a whopping charge of 50 dollars!!! I couldn't believe the owner Kevin didn't charge anything, so I bought a bottle of oil and a pair of gloves from him and on top of that slipped 20 extra dollars into the total bill. I ended up paying about a hundred, which was about how much I was expecting to pay for the job alone...

So now my little red scooter rides smooth and wonderful...I am so happy to have her back. I hope she'll survive the trip to Melbourne. Oddly enough, I can't think of a name for her. I just know she is a girl, a pretty stubborn one at that. I guess most red creatures are hard-headed. My car, Schroeder, is a tough little veteran as well.

Schroeder will require some surgery within the next few months. He needs a paint job badly and it's possible that his catalytic converter needs to be looked at. Despite every little/big problems I've ever had with him, he's a good and loyal car.
